The Tim Tebow Foundation (TTF) is thrilled to announce the launch of Shine On, a ministry of the foundation dedicated to connecting new and growing special needs programs within local churches to world-class faith-based resources that train, guide, and support churches as they serve their local community of people with special needs.
Every year on the Friday before Valentine’s Day, hundreds of churches in the US and across the globe host Night to Shine, an unforgettable prom night experience for people with special needs sponsored by the Tim Tebow Foundation. Formed by an ongoing desire to see churches worldwide extend their individual Night to Shine proms into year-round ministries, Shine On is an initiative several years in the making. Whether a church is simply looking for ways to refine an existing ministry for those with special needs, or looking to build one from the ground up, there is both inspiration and assistance for everyone.
Shine On profiles nine world-class special needs ministries already working on the ground both domestically and abroad; ministries who have graciously agreed to lend their wealth of knowledge and expertise to Night to Shine host churches already serving and celebrating people with special needs. Included in this group of advisors are All Belong Center for Inclusive Education, Champions Club, Friendship Ministries, Joni and Friends, Key Ministry, Nathaniel’s Hope, Rising Above Ministries, Young Life Capernaum, and 99 Balloons.
In addition to providing an introduction to the amazing organizations listed above, Shine On also includes direction and support from TTF staff including assets such as a calendar of events and activities to use as inspiration in creating community among people with special needs. Each activity is designed to include Christ-centered elements and teachings, further affirming the message that those with special needs are dearly loved by the Creator, and that there is great purpose for their lives.
We recently checked in with several of the churches already implementing Shine On, and were encouraged by the many positive responses. “I am so excited about Shine On,” wrote Lynn Ebner from Royal Redeemer Lutheran Church. “Royal Redeemer already offers Nathaniel’s Hope Buddy Break. The families we serve really appreciate the ministry, and we are forming wonderful relationships. I’m so excited to share the rest of the resources you have sent with our special needs ministry team. God is so very good.”
It is our hope, our prayer, and our belief that God will use Shine On to encourage and equip each and every church to continue loving, celebrating, and living out the Gospel to those with special needs in a way that goes far beyond Night to Shine.
