Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever.
1 Corinthians 9:25
November 26, 2017 was a night I’ll never forget. That evening, one of the greatest dreams of my life came true when I was named Miss Universe. But just one year later, my crown was passed to a new winner, and I found myself wrestling with what came next. What was the real purpose of my life? I was deeply grateful for the success God had allowed me to have. But I also recognized that it was temporary.
In the years that have followed, I’ve thought a lot about how the Bible challenges us to pursue a different sort of crown—one that cannot be attained through worldly success, but rather, through acts of love, service, and sacrifice. One that symbolizes eternal impact, not a momentary achievement. It’s this type of crown that I believe every one of us should be pursuing.
But how? Well, I truly believe that every one of us has something to offer the world. Resources, position, influence, time, skills…we all have something that can be channeled or leveraged for the good of others. Something that matters both in the here and now, and for eternity.
For me, my Miss Universe title gave me a unique platform, one for which I’m so grateful! It gave me an opportunity to raise my voice and advocate for things I believe in…things than myself. The fight against human trafficking and child sexual exploitation (CSE) is one of these things.
CSE is a worldwide crisis with stats that often seem overwhelming. In 2021, 29 million reports of suspected online exploitation were received by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Leading the way in consumption? The United States of America. Leading the way in production? The Philippines, a country both my husband and I love deeply.
That’s why, in 2021, the Tim Tebow Foundation partnered with Compassionate Hope Philippines, a global charitable organization focused on providing hope and a future to victims and potential victims of sexual exploitation in Southeast Asia. Through the establishment of the Compassionate Hope – Tebow Village of Hope campus, we have been able to expand our global impact upon survivors of trafficking and exploitation and make a significant difference in the lives of many survivors already.
But there is still so much more we could be doing…so many more girls and boys who need a safe space to find healing and restoration – physically, mentally, emotionally, socially, and spiritually. And so that is why, for my 27th birthday this month, we have set a goal of raising $200,000 for the buildout of four new safe homes at the Tebow Village of Hope. With the construction of these homes, we have an opportunity to provide desperately needed holistic care for up to 80 additional survivors of exploitation, many of whom have no other place to go.
Just last month, I visited the campus and saw the land where the homes will be built. I cannot put into words the emotions I felt as our team stood on that piece of ground and prayed over the survivors who will one day call it home. The potential to change the lives of countless children both in the here and now, and for eternity to come is great.
And for myself and the TTF team, this ministry expansion is also an opportunity to pursue a higher calling—to love as Jesus did and to shine light into real darkness. And so today, I am inviting you to join us on our mission to spread Faith, Hope, and Love, to partner with us in caring for these precious children, and together, to chase after an everlasting crown.
