TTF Celebrates Grand Opening of the 9th Timmy's Playroom

The Tim Tebow Foundation announced that Shriners Hospitals for Children – Tampa recently became the newest hospital to open an official Timmy’s Playroom. Timmy’s Playrooms are unique, custom-built spaces designed and gifted by the foundation to bring faith, hope and love to patients and their families while they undergo treatment, many times during extended hospital stays.

This is the second Timmy’s Playroom in the Shriners Hospitals for Children system. Shriners Hospitals for Children – Tampa joins Wolfson Children’s Hospital of Jacksonville, FL, Dreams Come True of Jacksonville, FL, UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville, FL, the Tebow CURE Hospital in the Philippines, Nemours Children’s Hospital – Orlando, FL, Niswonger Children’s Hospital in Johnson City, TN, Covenant Children’s Hospital in Lubbock, TX, and Shriners Hospitals for Children – Shreveport in Shreveport, LA, as a host to one of these special play areas which have served nearly 5,000 patients and family members.

The playroom, located in the hospital’s radiology waiting area, is now open to patients. A grand opening ceremony took place on Monday, December 4, 2017, to officially open the doors and welcome patients to a place where they can play and interact with other children facing a similar diagnosis in an encouraging environment.

“We want to thank the staff of the Tim Tebow Foundation for their generous donation,” said Alicia Argiz-Lyons, the hospital’s development director. “Our patients will enjoy their new colorful, fun, environment while they are waiting for their imaging to be completed.”

The idea for these one-of-a-kind rooms was formed while Founder and Chairman of the Tim Tebow Foundation, Tim Tebow, was still in college at the University of Florida. While there, Tebow would visit long-term care patients at UF Health Shands Hospital to encourage them.

“After seeing children stuck in their hospital rooms without somewhere to have fun and be a kid, I knew I wanted to create a place where they could take a break from their medical treatments and play games and hang out with other kids, all in a really cool environment,” said Tim Tebow. “Not only can play be a huge encouragement to their recovery, but each room has a Bible verse to encourage them and help them find their true source of strength.”

Timmy’s Playrooms are created to provide an atmosphere that allows children to take their minds off of their medical treatment and just be kids. Each playroom is completely customized with a football field floor, custom wall graphics, a table for arts and crafts, specially-built lockers, a Bible verse banner, inspirational quotes and a Jumbotron entertainment center stocked with the latest video games, DVDs and electronics.

These special playrooms are just one of seven main outreach initiatives of the Tim Tebow Foundation, all which contribute to their mission to bring Faith, Hope and Love to those needing a brighter day in their darkest hour of need.
