Night to Shine is about the stories

Night to Shine is about the stories

An unforgettable prom night experience, centered on God’s love, for people with special needs.

375 Host Churches  • 50 States  • 11 Countries
150,000 Volunteers  •  75,000 Honored Guests

These numbers for this year’s Night to Shine are truly amazing, but the most humbling stat is the number of stories of lives that were touched by Night to Shine around the world! To re-live Night to Shine moments from February 10, we wanted to take you on a quick tour of stories from around the world from this year’s event…

“The Night to Shine movement is more than just a prom; it is a night where people with special needs shine and they are told that they matter, that they are important and that God has a plan for their life!”

– Tim Tebow

At our official Night to Shine kick-off, we began to see a narrative change in Neply, Haiti…

As we celebrated the Kings & Queens of the prom at MyLIFEspeaks, members of the local community began to gather outside of the prom… the crowd grew as the night progressed and before we knew it, hundreds were gathered trying to understand what was going on. In Haiti, and many developing countries, children with special needs are believed to be cursed. Through Night to Shine, Neply’s families and religious figures saw for the first time these children being touched, being celebrated… being loved. The crowd began to see these children in a new light… many even stated that they wanted to celebrate them next year at Night to Shine! Instances like this fuel our belief that together, through Night to Shine, we can change how society views people with special needs!

“There have been times I’ve wanted to shout to everyone and no one in particular, ‘Don’t forget my girl. It’s not easy, I know. But she’s here, sitting in the dark, waiting for you to sit with her, see her, know her. Don’t forget my girl.’

At Night to Shine, God whispered to me: ‘I will never ever forget her. She is famous to me like an A-lister walking the red carpet. I throw a party, serve the best food and clothe her in love. I pamper her with my goodness and put a crown on her head. She is precious and she is mine.’

How extravagant is the love of God for us?” – Volunteer and mother of a Night to Shine guest

In 2017, we saw 28 different denominations come together to host Night to Shine around the world. Coming together to celebrate the Kings & Queens was never more evident than in Fort Collins, CO, where 4 churches of different denominations collaborated to throw an extravagant Night to Shine for hundreds of honored guests! Our Colorado Collaboration was hosted by Redeemer Lutheran Church, The Gathering at Windsor, Crossroads Church and Grace Community Church!

“I went to my high school prom, but this prom was so much better because people actually wanted me here and I felt so loved and welcomed. I hope we do this again next year!”

It was such a blessing for TTF to witness two of our ministries align, as Night to Shine was hosted by Tebow CURE Hospital!

“The body of Christ pulled together from different denominations, non-profits, and professions. I am certain God was smiling! Our guests came mainly from two different schools for the blind, an organization for the deaf, the Down Syndrome Association, and from our very own Tebow CURE Hospital. Our very first patient, Ruby Anne, was there! Each guest was referred to as a king or queen as they were all crowned. Working together to LOVE is something quite wonderful!”

“For me the neatest thing was to see Eddy on the dance floor – dancing his little heart out! He was unable to attend last year as he was awaiting surgery and unable to walk.”

This past Night to Shine, we had the blessing to visit Rising Above Ministries and see first hand how they are making a difference in the lives of people with special needs 52 weeks a year.

“We love working with churches because it isn’t about just one night; it is about celebrating and loving these amazing people 52 weeks a year, and we are so encouraged by how many of our host churches are starting or enhancing their own year-round special needs ministry!”

– Erik Dellenback, Executive Director, Tim Tebow Foundation

It is our hope that through Night to Shine, churches begin to expand or begin ongoing ministries for people with special needs!
