T.J.’s Story

Tyson Odom, Jr., or T.J. as he prefers to be called, is 14 years old and has courageously been battling Leukemia, a cancer of blood-forming tissues that hinders the body’s ability to fight infection. As part of T.J.’s treatment, he takes a daily regimen of oral chemotherapy medicines and also receives monthly infusion chemotherapy, including spinal taps. Cancer has made it difficult for T.J. to attend school and enjoy his outdoor hobbies – swimming, golfing, fishing, and soccer, but he has remained strong in his faith in God. Through it all, T.J. clings to his favorite verse from Jeremiah 29:11. “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” T.J.’s prayer is that his immune system will be strengthened so that he will be able to attend high school in January.

We first met T.J. at the 7th Annual Tim Tebow Foundation Celebrity Golf Classic, where he was one of our honored guests. T.J. is looking forward to spending time with Tim this weekend on his W15H.

“Tim is such a positive role model and influence on everyone. He seems really fun to hang out with. This W15H experience is an opportunity for me to be my old self and enjoy life outside of meds and doctors visits.” – T.J.

T.J.’s W15H

Not only is T.J. a UF fan, he is also a UT and an LSU fan. T.J.’s W15H experience took him to Knoxville, TN to attend the UT versus Georgia game on Saturday. His W15H started off with a Friday night private dinner at Ruth’s Chris where he got to spend one-on-one time with his role model, Tim Tebow. The highlight of the night came when T.J. and Tim played a competitive game of cornhole together!

Saturday T.J. was able to be on the set of SEC Nation where he enjoyed behind-the-scenes access with Tim and the cast of SEC Nation. T.J. enjoyed a warm welcome and introduction to the crowd, where they then chanted his name in support!

In between SEC Nation and the game, T.J. had lunch at Calhoun’s on the River on Knoxville’s historic waterfront. Following lunch, the University of Tennessee rolled out the red-carpet for T.J. and his family, as they enjoyed sideline and skybox access for the Georgia vs. Tennessee football game!

As we head into our official W15H season, if you would like to help fulfill the dreams of children with life-threatening illnesses who wish to meet Tim Tebow, donate at www.timtebowfoundation.org
