Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.– THE PLAYERS Foundation has joined forces with Tim Tebow to stage the first annual Tim Tebow Foundation Celebrity Golf Classic, tournament officials announced today. The two-day event will take place at TPC Sawgrass, May 6-7 to raise much-needed funds for at-risk children throughout the world.
The partnership between THE PLAYERS Foundation and the Tim Tebow Foundation was a natural fit with both organizations sharing the goal of bringing a brighter day to children around the world. The net proceeds from The Tim Tebow Foundation Celebrity Golf Classic will directly benefit the Tim Tebow Foundation and The First Tee. The event will take place just days before the best professional golfers in the world return to the First Coast for the 2011 edition of THE PLAYERS, May 9-15, at THE PLAYERS Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass.
“We are thrilled to partner with the Tim Tebow Foundation to put together the inaugural Tim Tebow Foundation Celebrity Golf Classic,” said Matt Rapp, Executive Director of THE PLAYERS. “At the core of THE PLAYERS is the mission to give back to those less fortunate here on the First Coast and what better way to continue in this endeavor than by joining forces with Tim Tebow, a product of the First Coast who has demonstrated throughout his high school, college and now NFL career that helping others is what truly drives him.”
"It's an honor to be able to partner my foundation with such a wonderful and prestigious event in a community that is near and dear to my heart," said Tebow. "We have been blessed with a platform to help children along the First Coast, throughout the United States and all over the world. The sky is the limit for this event and I hope the North Florida community will come out and support us.”
The inaugural Tim Tebow Foundation Celebrity Golf Classic marks the beginning of a focused effort to utilize Tebow’s national platform to bring assistance and hope to families and children when they need it most.
“We are very excited to officially kickoff the Tim Tebow Foundation by partnering with THE PLAYERS to host this amazing golf tournament,” said Erik Dellenback, Executive Director of the Tim Tebow Foundation. “We are truly blessed to be able to host the Foundation’s inaugural event in Tim’s hometown and to work with wonderful organizations such as THE PLAYERS and The First Tee.”
“As a Founding Partner of The First Tee, the PGA TOUR continues to support our mission in many ways and the Tim Tebow Foundation Celebrity Golf Classic is yet another example of their dedication to charity,” said Joe Louis Barrow, Jr., chief executive officer of The First Tee. “On behalf of the young people The First Tee impacts every day in this community and beyond, we thank all involved in this event, especially Tim Tebow.”
The Tim Tebow Foundation Celebrity Golf Classic begins with an intimate Friday evening Gala at the TPC Sawgrass clubhouse, followed by celebrities from the world of sports and entertainment competing in a shotgun start golf tournament on Dye’s Valley Course at TPC Sawgrass, Saturday, May 7, at 9 a.m. Among the celebrities expected to be in attendance are NFL running back Adrian Peterson, former University of Florida head football coach Urban Meyer, former NFL head coach and current ESPN NFL analyst Jon Gruden, current University of Florida Head Coach Will Muschamp, ESPN personalities Scott Van Pelt and Kirk Herbstreit and host of the NFL RedZone, Scott Hanson.
There are still many ways for individuals and companies to get involved in the tournament through event sponsorships, table sponsorships, foursomes and volunteer opportunities.
