Tim Tebow Teams Up With Groove Auto's Drive For Education 24 Sep

Groove Auto Dealerships’ educational project for at-risk kids matches up with The Tim Tebow Foundation’s goal to support Colorado’s youth.

Denver—Sept. 28, 2010—Denver Broncos Quarterback Tim Tebow announced today he is teaming with Groove Auto’s “Drive for Education,” in a joint effort to provide much needed educational and foundational support for at-risk youth in Colorado. Tebow will appear in public service announcements featuring Denver area school children to promote the non-profit educational project.

“Together, we hope to have a huge impact on the future of kids in our community,” Tebow said. “Some kids live with truly difficult circumstances that make school seem less important—challenging situations that interfere with their ability to fully participate and excel. Groove Auto’s ‘Drive for Education’ project hopes to help change that.” Tebow, whose Tim Tebow Foundation’s mission is to bring ‘faith, hope and love to those needing a brighter day,’ has made it a top priority to give back—not just to the Colorado community but also throughout the country and around the world.

“Partnering with Tim and the Tim Tebow Foundation will allow the ‘Drive for Education’ to achieve success at a greater level,” said Rod Buscher, president and CEO of Groove Auto. “Tim’s stellar character and dedication to helping kids are incredibly admirable. With his help, the Drive for Education is sure to make a significant, positive difference in the lives of many of Colorado’s children.”

Groove’s Drive for Education will generate about $100,000 the first year, through dedicated proceeds from Groove’s auto sales and donations. Buscher expects the contributions to grow in successive years. The Groove Auto Team and the Tim Tebow Foundation have selected Colorado Uplift, a non-profit youth service organization endorsed by Denver Public Schools as among the first to benefit from the project.

“The Drive for Education” project was created in 1996 by Buscher, initially as a college scholarship program. Buscher, co-founder of The John Elway Dealerships, guided the original “Drive” to amazing success—ultimately providing 120 full-ride college scholarships to Denver-area high school students. As a result, the Drive for Education was endorsed by Governor Roy Romer and Buscher was honored with the University of Colorado’s Distinguished Service Award. The program was suspended in 1998 when Buscher and Elway sold their car dealership group to AutoNation.

Buscher strongly believes that restarting “the Drive for Education” through Groove Auto is the right thing to do for the community and for the company. This time he says the project’s efforts will be directed toward younger students, “to help ensure all of Colorado’s kids have the opportunity to achieve a brighter future through education.”

Denver-based Groove Auto is comprised of five automobile dealerships, including Groove Toyota, Scion and Subaru on Broadway, in Englewood and Groove Ford and Mazda on Arapahoe, in Centennial.
